Opening December 2024: The ultimate villa retreat in the Franschhoek Wine Valley

Acommodation

Leaving it all behind

The journey from the Mother City, with its final stretch along Franschhoek’s Elandskloof Road to La Residence, gently eases you into a different world. Just an hour from Cape Town, this 30-acre private estate is surrounded by mountains, ancient vineyards and plum orchards inviting a peaceful shift in perspective.

In 2008, the Biden family opened La Residence, a hotel that pays tribute to the region’s French heritage while incorporating grand treasures, a fusion of design influences and curated works of art sourced from Europe, Asia and Africa. The luxury hotel and Vineyard Suites have been a popular choice for guests over the years, and now the addition of the six-bedroom villa provides families and friend groups with a private home-style retreat, complete with all the extras and amenities of the La Residence experience.

The Royal Portfolio CEO, Matt Biden, says, “We’re seeing a strong trend towards families seeking private, exclusive spaces across all our properties. Given the success of Africa House, our private villa at Royal Malewane in the Greater Kruger, it made sense to offer a similar experience at La Residence. We’re thrilled about opening a villa in the Cape Winelands, which has already generated significant interest.”

With six individually designed suites, the villa can accommodate up to 12 guests. There is ample space for groups or families to come together comfortably and enjoy the spacious indoor and outdoor areas — including multiple patios and verandahs, a games room (the long room), a heated pool and a tranquil, enclosed courtyard area.

The property offers private services, including a chef, host, and interactive kitchen, where guests can relish deliciously prepared menus and dishes tailored to their personal preferences, utilising fresh produce from the local area and the La Residence herb and vegetable gardens.

Craig Versfeld, GM of La Residence, highlights that Franschhoek House is the quintessential base for families or groups of friends visiting the valley.

He says, “It offers privacy and exclusivity — guests can relax and enjoy their holiday at their own pace, while still having full access to La Residence, including the fitness centre, library, gift boutique, spa treatment room, the swimming pool at the Vineyard Suites and the restaurants and lounge areas. They can also explore the town, the wine estates and the outdoor attractions for which Franschhoek is so well known. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests.”

Design inspiration comes together as a tribute to all things beautiful
